The figure stands balanced upon a globe, which rests within a scallop shell, a traditional iconographic choice that links the concept of fortune to the unpredictable nature of the sea. She holds a billowing sail above her head, suggesting the winds of change that dictate human destiny. The composition draws upon the Mannerist tradition, characterised by the elongated proportions of the figure and the dynamic, twisting posture known as the figura serpentinata.

In the background, a busy harbour scene unfolds, featuring ships at anchor and figures working on a stone quay. This juxtaposition of the divine, allegorical figure with the mundane activities of a port city provides a commentary on the influence of fortune in commerce and travel. The print includes a Latin inscription at the base, which reinforces the theme of fortune favouring those on land and sea.
