This engraving by Abraham de Bruyn, a prolific Dutch printmaker active in Antwerp and Cologne, depicts figures of the French nobility and a councillor. The work originates from a broader series documenting contemporary European dress and social hierarchy. De Bruyn was known for his precise, technical approach to printmaking, often producing plates that served as visual records of the fashions and status symbols of the late sixteenth century.

The print features two distinct scenes. On the left, a mounted French nobleman is shown in profile, his attire rendered with careful attention to the textures of his garments and the anatomy of his horse. Despite the significant loss of paper substrate, the remaining fragments demonstrate the fine line work characteristic of De Bruyn's output.
