The central cartouche contains the title and a summary of the six sections of the book, which detail the roles of the maiden, the wife, the bride, the mother, the widow, and the betrothed. Surrounding this text are allegorical scenes depicting these life stages. The figures are dressed in the contemporary fashion of the early seventeenth century, providing a record of social customs and attire. Putti, or winged infants, hover around the central scroll, acting as decorative elements that link the disparate scenes together.
