This mezzotint by Richard Earlom, published in 1775, reproduces a painting by the Flemish artist Frans Snyders. Earlom was a master of the mezzotint technique, a process that allows for subtle gradations of tone and light. By using a rocker to create a burr on the copper plate, he achieved the velvety blacks and soft highlights visible in this composition.

The scene depicts a bustling market stall overflowing with produce. Baskets of grapes, melons, and various orchard fruits occupy the foreground and centre, rendered with attention to texture and form. Two figures engage in a transaction: a vendor presents a small bowl of fruit to a customer, while a small dog stands alert near the vendor's feet. The composition follows the tradition of seventeenth-century Flemish still-life painting, where the abundance of nature is presented with precision.

Earlom worked closely with the publisher John Boydell, who commissioned this print as part of a series intended to bring European masterworks to a wider British audience. The technical execution demonstrates the high level of skill required to translate the colour and depth of an oil painting into the monochromatic medium of printmaking. The inclusion of the coat of arms at the bottom indicates the print's status as a formal publication of the period.
