Jan de Beijer was a prolific draughtsman known for his precise topographical records of Dutch towns and villages during the eighteenth century. This work depicts the Klokhuis, or bell tower, in the village of Overveen. The composition follows the conventions of the period, balancing architectural accuracy with the daily activities of the local inhabitants. De Beijer employs a delicate pen-and-ink outline, filled with muted watercolour washes to define the brickwork, timber structures, and the surrounding foliage.
