Description
Hawes / Aysgarth Falls centres on stepped cascades pouring over warm limestone ledges, framed by leafy banks and a distant band of pale, sunlit crags.
In the foreground, water breaks into white curtains across square grey shelves before gathering in dark blue pools. Smaller drops recede upstream beneath dense green trees, and the banks open towards high, pale rock faces beyond the valley. Sun touches the upper grass and the broad horizontal strata, giving the scene a clear sequence from pool to plateau.
Hawes / Aysgarth Falls connects visitors with one of the Dales' most immediate encounters with moving water and stone. Those who know the area may recognise the contrast between the shaded river corridor and the open ground above it, where the sound of the falls carries through the valley.
