This engraving by Gérard Edelinck depicts the Dutch painter and printmaker Hendrick Goltzius. Edelinck, a Flemish engraver who spent much of his career in Paris, is recognised for his technical precision and his ability to translate the tonal qualities of oil painting into the medium of copperplate engraving. In this work, he captures the subject in a three-quarter view, wearing a cap and a heavy, draped garment that suggests the period attire of the late sixteenth or early seventeenth century.
