This work is a monochrome fresco from the lower register of the north wall in the Scrovegni Chapel, Padua. It represents the vice of Injustice, depicted as a seated judge within a rocky, fortress-like niche. The figure holds a spear and wears a stern expression, embodying the corruption of legal authority. Below the judge, the scene depicts acts of violence and pillage, illustrating the tangible consequences of an unjust ruler. The style is grisaille, a technique using shades of grey to mimic the appearance of stone sculpture. This choice of palette directs the viewer's attention to the form and the narrative content rather than colour.

Giotto di Bondone was a central figure in the transition from Byzantine stylisation to the naturalism that defined the Italian Renaissance. His approach to human figures, characterised by weight and psychological presence, marked a departure from the flat, decorative traditions of his predecessors. The Scrovegni Chapel cycle, commissioned by Enrico Scrovegni, remains one of the most complete examples of his work.
