This woodcut by Veit Rudolf Specklin depicts the biblical narrative of Isaac bestowing his blessing upon Jacob. The composition is divided into two distinct zones: the interior scene of the bedchamber and the exterior view visible through an arched window. In the foreground, the elderly, sightless Isaac lies in a four-poster bed, his hand resting upon the head of a kneeling Jacob. Beside them, Rebekah stands, observing the deception. The figures are rendered with the characteristic linear precision of 16th-century German printmaking, where hatching and cross-hatching define the folds of garments and the textures of the bed hangings.

Through the window on the right, the artist provides a narrative counterpoint. A figure, presumably Esau, is shown hunting in the distance, unaware that his birthright has been claimed by his brother. This simultaneous presentation of events is a common device in Renaissance narrative art, allowing the viewer to grasp the full scope of the story within a single frame. The architectural elements, such as the bed frame and the arched window, provide a structured environment for the figures, while the simple furniture and domestic items suggest a setting grounded in the period of the artist.
