Pierre-Joseph Redouté, often referred to as the Raphael of flowers, produced this study for his monumental work, Les Liliacées. Published in Paris between 1802 and 1816, the series documents a wide array of bulbous plants with scientific precision. Redouté utilised the technique of stipple engraving, a method that allows for subtle gradations of tone and colour, which perfectly captures the delicate textures of botanical specimens. This plate depicts Kaempferia longa, a member of the ginger family.
