This woodblock print is part of the series 'A Hundred Views of Famous Places in the Various Provinces', a project initiated by the Utagawa school during the late Edo period. Utagawa Hiroshige II, a student and successor to the master Hiroshige, captures the Nachi Falls in Kii Province, a site of significant religious importance in Japan. The composition focuses on the verticality of the waterfall, which dominates the right side of the frame. The artist employs a stylised approach to the surrounding forest, using blocks of deep green to suggest the dense foliage of the mountain slopes.

In the lower left, small architectural structures are nestled among the trees, providing a sense of scale against the immense power of the falling water. The use of colour is characteristic of the period, featuring bold, flat areas of green contrasted with the white of the cascading water and the atmospheric red clouds that frame the scene.
