Georges Michel, a French painter active during the early nineteenth century, focused his attention on the rural outskirts of Paris. This work captures the sombre, atmospheric quality that defined his output. The composition is dominated by a vast, turbulent sky filled with heavy, grey clouds that cast deep shadows across the terrain below. Michel employs a palette of muted earth tones, ochres, and slate greys to convey the rugged texture of the ground.
