Konstantin Bogaevsky is recognised for his distinct approach to the Crimean terrain, which he often transformed into semi-mythical, archaic visions. This work depicts the area around Stary Krym, a region that provided the artist with a recurring source of inspiration throughout his career. Bogaevsky avoids a purely topographical representation, opting instead for a stylised interpretation of the geological features and vegetation.

The composition is structured around vertical tree forms that act as framing devices for the rugged, rocky outcrops in the background. The treatment of the foliage is rhythmic and repetitive, suggesting a decorative quality that aligns with the Symbolist tendencies of the early twentieth century. His work often evokes the feeling of a lost, classical world, where nature is imbued with a quiet, solemn presence. By simplifying the contours of the hills and the structure of the trees, the artist creates a scene that feels removed from the immediate concerns of the modern era.
