Description
Lansallos Coves on the Devon coast draw the eye through a rocky inlet to bright water and a small sandy beach, held between richly coloured headlands.
Ochre and umber cliffs rise sharply from the foreground, their ridges cut by pockets of green vegetation and narrow shadowed gullies. Beyond them, the sea opens in clear blue bands, with white flecks gathering around scattered offshore rocks. Puffy cream clouds sit high in a teal sky, while a distant sequence of slopes softens into the far coast. The beach appears as a warm, sheltered curve beneath the darker rock, giving the inlet an intimate centre.
Lansallos Coves may speak to people who have taken the path down from the cliffs and found the water suddenly close at hand. For visitors to this part of Devon, the sheltered sand and changing sea colour hold the reward of a quieter turn along the coast.
