Produced during the late sixteenth century, the work reflects the European fascination with the dress and social structures of the Ottoman Empire. De Bruyn, a skilled engraver based in Antwerp, was known for his systematic documentation of contemporary costumes from various regions and cultures.

The composition features two distinct panels, each framed by a decorative border containing botanical and avian motifs.
