This engraving by Abraham de Bruyn depicts two figures identified as Mamluks, presented within decorative borders. De Bruyn, a Flemish engraver and publisher active in Antwerp, produced numerous works documenting the diverse costumes and social types of the sixteenth century. His output often served as a visual catalogue for a European audience curious about distant cultures and historical figures.

The left panel shows a mounted figure with a tall headdress, holding a lance, accompanied by a Latin and German inscription. The right panel features a similar equestrian figure, also framed by an ornamental border. The style reflects the precision characteristic of late sixteenth-century printmaking, where the focus remains on the accurate rendering of garments, weaponry, and posture. The borders contain small motifs of flora and fauna, a common decorative device in the period to frame ethnographic or historical subjects.

These prints belong to a broader tradition of costume books, which gained popularity during the Renaissance as travel and trade expanded.
