Lucebert, the pseudonym of Lubertus Jacobus Swaanswijk, was a central figure in the Dutch post-war avant-garde. As a poet and painter, his work often rejects traditional aesthetic norms in favour of raw, spontaneous expression. This ink drawing, dated 22 February 1970, displays the characteristic urgency found in his graphic output. The subject is a distorted, grotesque figure, rendered with bold, sweeping lines that define its exaggerated features and heavy, striped torso.

His approach to the human form is far from naturalistic. Instead, he employs a visual language that prioritises emotional impact over anatomical accuracy.
