These prints documented the arrival of foreigners and the resulting cultural exchanges within the city.

The composition features a Japanese courtesan interacting with Western men, likely merchants or naval officers, dressed in military-style uniforms. The artist employs the characteristic flat perspective and bold outlines typical of the Utagawa school.
