This work by Jacopo Pontormo depicts Maria Salviati, the daughter of Lucrezia de' Medici, alongside the young Giulia de' Medici. Painted during the height of the Florentine Mannerist period, the composition reflects the artist's characteristic approach to form and psychological tension. Maria Salviati is shown in mourning attire, a choice that aligns with the historical context of the Medici family during this period.
