Rainham Marshes is rendered in warm evening light, where a raised water-control structure overlooks winding channels, reed beds and a distant line of industrial stacks.
Broad ribbons of still water catch apricot light as they pass between low, dark-green banks. Tall seed heads lean across the foreground, and the main structure stands on narrow piers with a stairway and railings cutting a crisp silhouette. Beyond it, a thin procession of chimneys and towers gives the horizon an urban edge beneath layered plum clouds.
Rainham Marshes holds both sides of the estuary landscape in view: open wet ground close at hand and the city-shaped distance beyond.
