Théo van Rysselberghe, a central figure in the Belgian Neo-Impressionist movement, produced this study of the Mediterranean coastline during his time in the south of France. The work captures the rugged terrain of Anthéor, where the distinctive red porphyry rocks meet the sea. Van Rysselberghe employs a systematic application of colour, utilising the divisionist technique to separate hues into individual strokes.
