Wilhelm Kotarbinski, a Polish painter active during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, produced works characterised by a distinct blend of Symbolism and academic tradition. His career, largely spent in Kyiv, allowed him to engage with both Western European aesthetic movements and the specific religious and cultural traditions of the region. This depiction of a Seraphim reflects his interest in ethereal, otherworldly subjects, a common theme in his oeuvre.

The composition centres on the figure of the angel, whose large, multi-layered wings dominate the frame. Kotarbinski employs a palette of deep blues and muted ochres, contrasting with the luminous gold of the halo. The figure possesses a melancholic, introspective expression, typical of the Symbolist approach to religious iconography.
