Description
Inside the demon stronghold, Raiko's disguised party joins Shuten-doji's banquet, where sake, patterned robes and watchful faces turn a welcome meal into a tense meeting with danger close at hand.
At the mountain stronghold, newcomers are received among Shuten-doji's followers. The room is arranged around a shared meal, with the oni host and his companions watching from above while bowls and vessels pass across the floor. Hospitality becomes a mask for suspicion, and the visitors must stay inside their disguise.
The composition opens across the floor so human guests and demons occupy the same unstable space. Vermilion robes, pine green, blue and warm paper create a warmer second movement in the set, with black key lines giving the faces their weight. Placed second in the sequence, this contemporary interpretation keeps the Mount Oe legend close to its moment of danger.
