This triptych by Hans Baldung, often referred to as Baldung Grien, dates to the early sixteenth century. The central panel depicts the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian, who is shown bound to a tree while archers prepare to execute their sentence. Baldung employs a sharp, linear precision in his rendering of the figures, a technique he developed during his time in the workshop of Albrecht Dürer.

The side panels provide a balanced composition to the central scene. On the left, a cleric is depicted in ornate vestments, holding a book, which introduces a sense of liturgical order to the violent central narrative. On the right, Saint Christopher is shown carrying the Christ Child across a body of water, a common pairing in devotional works of this period.
