This engraving depicts the final moments of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit order. The composition is divided into distinct narrative zones, a common technique in early seventeenth-century Flemish printmaking. The central scene shows the saint on his deathbed, clutching a crucifix while a beam of light, inscribed with the name 'IESVS', emanates from his mouth towards a celestial vision of angels. Surrounding the bed, a group of clerics observe the scene in prayer, their figures rendered with precise hatching to define the folds of their vestments.

To the right, a secondary scene shows a papal audience, providing context to the saint's spiritual authority. Above the bed, an inset panel illustrates a simultaneous event, showing a vision of the saint appearing to a woman in Bologna. This use of multiple registers allows the artist to convey complex hagiographic information within a single frame. The work is attributed to the Galle family workshop, a prolific centre for print production in Antwerp during the Counter-Reformation.
