Description
Across a wind-flattened Nasu moor, the pale nine-tailed fox runs low through the grass while mounted archers close across the distant ridge, while pale nine-tailed fox and windswept susuki grass sharpen this particular moment.
Exposed at court, Tamamo-no-Mae escapes to the open country of Nasu in her fox form. The pursuit expands the story from the closed palace into a vast moor where speed, wind and distance briefly favour the fugitive spirit.
This contemporary interpretation gives the fox the lower field and drives every tail and grass head sideways. The archers remain small along the horizon, allowing straw, teal and black to turn the open country itself into the pressure of pursuit. In The Flight to Nasu, pale nine-tailed fox and windswept susuki grass establish the straw teal black rhythm assigned to scene 2.
