Maxime Maufra, a painter associated with the Pont-Aven School, produced this study of the Brittany coast in 1913. The work captures the maritime atmosphere of Concarneau, a town that attracted many artists during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries due to its rugged shoreline and traditional fishing culture. Maufra, who spent significant time in the region, often focused on the interplay between the sea and the land, using a technique that balances observational drawing with expressive colour application.
