Description
The Big Strand opens onto a long pale beach beneath layered cliffs, with clear turquoise water and the spacious, wind-bright character of the Antrim coast.
Grassy slopes descend over dark rock to a crescent of sand, while thin white breakers mark the shallows along the bay. The far headland has a sheer, level-topped profile, and small black rocks interrupt the water near the tideline under tall cream clouds.
The Big Strand gives a coastal walk a generous sense of distance, from the close grass and cliff edge to the exposed beach ahead. Anyone familiar with County Antrim’s shore will recognise how the changing tide leaves open sand, foam and sea stacked in clear horizontal bands.
