This woodcut, attributed to Lucas Cranach the Elder, depicts the biblical scene of Christ bearing the cross toward Calvary. Cranach, a central figure in the German Renaissance, utilised the woodcut medium to disseminate religious narratives with high visual impact. Christ is positioned in the lower right, his figure bowed under the weight of the timber, while he is surrounded by a dense throng of soldiers and onlookers.
