The composition centres on an oval frame depicting the figures of Liedekercke, Boursse, and Rouck, who are shown joining hands in a gesture of alliance. They are flanked by allegorical female figures representing Fiducia (Trust) and Charitas (Charity), who hold infants and symbols of their virtues. Above the central scene, two further allegorical figures, Tribulatio (Tribulation) and Pietas (Piety), occupy the upper corners, framing a celestial chariot scene. The lower section features a cartouche containing text in both French and Dutch, which explains the political context of the union formed to liberate the country from tyranny.

Wierix, a master of the burin, employs precise, fine lines to define the figures and the architectural setting. The work reflects the complex political climate of the Low Countries during the late sixteenth century, where printmaking functioned as a primary medium for disseminating news and political propaganda.
