They are shown during an outdoor procession, shielded from the rain by large, patterned umbrellas. The composition is split across two panels, a common format for ukiyo-e prints of the period, allowing for a wider narrative scope. Each courtesan is accompanied by young attendants, known as kamuro, who assist with their elaborate garments and accessories.

The print demonstrates the technical skill of the Edo period printmakers. Kunisada uses a palette of yellow, red, and deep green to define the heavy, layered kimonos worn by the women. The patterns on the fabric are rendered with precision, showing the fashion trends of the time.
