The Comte de Caylus, a prominent antiquarian and amateur printmaker, executed this etching after Bouchardon's drawings.

The print demonstrates the technical precision typical of the period. The artist employs dense, diagonal hatching to define the shadows and the texture of the man's clothing, while the background remains relatively spare to keep the focus on the subject. The man wears a simple apron and a hat, his posture conveying the repetitive nature of his labour.
