Cornelis Cort, a Dutch engraver who spent his final years in Italy, produced this engraving of The Last Supper in 1578. The composition reflects the influence of Italian Renaissance masters, particularly the work of Girolamo Muziano, whose designs Cort frequently translated into print. The scene is set within a grand architectural space defined by heavy, spiralling columns that draw the eye towards the central figure of Christ.

Cort employs a sophisticated system of cross-hatching and varied line weights to model the figures and the drapery of their garments.
