This engraving depicts the biblical encounter between Abraham and Melchizedek, a subject drawn from the Book of Genesis. Adriaen Collaert, a prolific Flemish engraver and publisher active in Antwerp, produced this work during the late sixteenth century. The composition follows the conventions of Northern Mannerism, characterised by a focus on narrative clarity and the inclusion of contemporary military attire, which anachronistically places the ancient figures within a sixteenth-century European context.
