The upper portion features the goddess Luna seated in a chariot drawn by horses, moving across the sky amidst clouds and a rainbow. She holds a bow, reflecting her association with the hunt and the night sky. A small oval cartouche above her contains the zodiacal sign of Cancer, which is traditionally associated with the moon in astrological systems of the period.

The lower register presents a sprawling coastal cityscape. This view incorporates various architectural elements and maritime activity, including numerous ships navigating the harbour. The scene functions as an allegory for the influence of the moon on tides and terrestrial affairs. The inclusion of Latin text at the base provides a scholarly framework, listing regions and cities under the moon's influence, which was a common practice in late sixteenth-century print culture to combine classical mythology with geographical knowledge.

Sadeler's technique demonstrates the precision characteristic of Flemish printmaking during the late Renaissance.
