Paulus Potter, a Dutch painter and etcher, achieved recognition for his focus on animals within their natural surroundings. This etching, known as The Pissing Cow, demonstrates his technical precision and his interest in the unvarnished realities of rural life. Unlike many of his contemporaries who sought to idealise the countryside, Potter observed his subjects with a clinical, almost scientific eye.
