Schmidt, a skilled printmaker who spent significant time in Saint Petersburg, produced this work after a painting by Pietro da Cortona. In the centre, the High Priest receives the child, while surrounding figures display various expressions of reverence and contemplation. The upper portion of the print features putti descending from the clouds, adding a celestial dimension to the scene. Schmidt demonstrates technical mastery through his use of varied line weights and cross-hatching, which create depth and texture within the drapery and architectural elements. At the base of the print, the inscription identifies the work as part of the Imperial Gallery in Saint Petersburg and includes a dedication to Catherine II, Empress of all the Russias.
