This engraving, titled The Resurrection of Christ, is a fine example of the technical precision associated with the workshop of Dominicus Custos. Born in Antwerp, Custos was a significant figure in the dissemination of prints across Europe during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. The composition follows the conventions of Northern Mannerism, characterised by a dynamic arrangement of figures and a dramatic use of light to guide the viewer through the narrative.

The scene depicts the moment of the Resurrection, with Christ ascending towards the heavens amidst a cloud of cherubim. Below, the Roman soldiers are shown in various states of disarray and astonishment, their armour rendered with meticulous attention to texture and reflection. The contrast between the ethereal, light-filled upper register and the shadowed, grounded figures of the guards creates a sense of spatial depth. The inclusion of Latin text at the base, referencing the Book of Revelation, provides a theological anchor for the visual drama above.

Custos often collaborated with other artists, and this work reflects the collaborative nature of print production in the period.
