This engraving by Hans Sebald Beham, dated 1543, depicts the biblical narrative of the Fall of Man. Beham, a member of the group known as the Little Masters, was known for his technical precision in small-scale printmaking. The composition focuses on the figures of Adam and Eve seated upon a stone ledge, their bodies rendered with the anatomical interest typical of the German Renaissance.

Adam holds the forbidden fruit in his right hand, while Eve leans toward him, their heads close in a moment of intimate exchange. Above them, the serpent is coiled within the branches of the tree, observing the scene. To the right, a stag emerges from the foliage, a common motif in period iconography that often symbolised Christ or the soul. The background is minimal, allowing the viewer to concentrate on the interaction between the two figures and the tension of the impending transgression.

Beham employs fine, controlled hatching to model the musculature and skin tones of the figures, creating a sense of volume within the compact frame. The artist's monogram, ISB, is visible in the lower left corner, a hallmark of his prolific output as a printmaker in Nuremberg. This work demonstrates the period's fascination with classical proportions applied to religious subjects, a style that circulated widely across Europe through the medium of the printed image. The print reflects the technical mastery required to achieve such detail on a small copper plate, a skill that defined the output of the Little Masters during the sixteenth century.
