This woodcut originates from the ambitious Triumphal Arch of Maximilian I, a massive print project commissioned by the Holy Roman Emperor to document his lineage, achievements, and military innovations. Wolf Traut, a member of the Dürer circle in Nuremberg, contributed several blocks to this series. This specific panel depicts the Emperor as a patron of military technology, surrounded by the tools of his trade.
