Giorgio Ghisi, a master engraver from Mantua, produced this work after a design by the Florentine painter Francesco Salviati. The print depicts the biblical meeting between the Virgin Mary and Saint Elizabeth. Ghisi employs a sophisticated engraving technique, using dense cross-hatching and varied line weights to create a sense of volume and atmospheric depth within the architectural setting.

The composition is characteristic of the Mannerist period, featuring elongated figures and complex, crowded arrangements. The scene is set within a classical portico, where the central figures of Mary and Elizabeth are surrounded by a multitude of observers and attendants.
