This engraving serves as the title page for the 1793 edition of The Iliad of Homer, featuring compositions by the British sculptor John Flaxman. Flaxman created these designs while residing in Rome, where he became deeply immersed in the study of classical antiquity. The work reflects the Neoclassical aesthetic, which prioritised clarity, restraint, and a return to the linear purity of Greek vase painting.

At the centre of the composition, a circular medallion depicts a figure seated behind a large eagle, which clutches a bundle of arrows.
