Eric Ravilious employs his characteristic watercolour technique, using controlled, linear brushwork to define the interior of the train. Within the windows, the view includes the Westbury White Horse, a chalk figure carved into the hillside. This inclusion provides a sense of place, grounding the scene in the geography of Wiltshire. The interior of the carriage is rendered with attention to the textures of the period, from the patterned upholstery of the seats to the wooden panelling and the leather strap hanging by the window.
