Shunkō, a student of Katsukawa Shunshō, is recognised for his contributions to the ukiyo-e genre, particularly his depictions of actors and women. In this work, the spatial arrangement creates a sense of depth as the eye moves from the foreground figures on the verandah to the more distant figures near the water. The palette is restrained, relying on soft earth tones, muted pinks, and subtle ochres, which align with the aesthetic conventions of the late eighteenth century.
