Rothko, born in Latvia and later immigrating to the United States, is known for his large-scale colour field paintings that aim to evoke emotional responses through the interaction of colour and form. A darker, teal-blue rectangle dominates the upper portion, while a lighter, sky-blue band bisects the composition. Another teal-blue block sits below.
