Description
Carried by the turtle through rolling blue currents, Urashima Taro leaves the familiar shore behind as the distant Dragon Palace rises ahead beneath the sea.
The rescued turtle bears Urashima through a vast underwater passage, its segmented shell cutting across bands of current. His fishing rod and basket remain with him, reminders of the shore receding above. Far ahead, the tiered outline of the Dragon Palace gives the journey a destination, though he has not yet reached its court.
Movement carries this second print. Sweeping water forms pull the eye diagonally through the image, setting the traveller and his guide against the still architecture in the distance. Saturated indigo meets restrained earth colour beneath emphatic black linework. The contemporary treatment changes the scale of the series from an intimate rescue to the open sea.
