This work by Noach van der Meer (II) documents a temporary architectural installation erected on the Westermarkt in Amsterdam in 1795. The structure was created to celebrate the political shifts occurring in the Netherlands during the Batavian Revolution. The design reflects the Neoclassical aesthetic prevalent in late eighteenth-century Dutch public art, characterised by symmetry, classical orders, and allegorical motifs.

The central arch features a relief depicting the destruction of the aristocracy, a thematic choice that aligns with the revolutionary spirit of the period. Flanking this central panel are two smaller niches containing figures, framed by columns with distinct red and blue accents.
