To the left, a matador is identified as 'Generaal Weyler', referring to Valeriano Weyler, the Spanish Governor-General of Cuba known for his harsh policies. To the right, another figure is marked 'Martinez Campos', representing Arsenio Martínez Campos, the Spanish general who preceded Weyler. The scene captures the chaotic nature of the struggle, with figures and objects scattered across the arena floor, suggesting the instability of the period.
