Guillain, a French sculptor and engraver, translated Carracci's observational sketches into a series of prints that capture the social fabric of the seventeenth-century Italian city.

The composition focuses on a vendor seen from behind, carrying a large barrel strapped to his back. He holds smaller vessels in his hand, while a young child looks up from the lower right, holding a pitcher. The artist employs a system of parallel lines and cross-hatching to define the volume of the barrel and the folds of the vendor's clothing. The technique is precise, relying on the clarity of the etched line to convey texture and form without the need for tonal shading. The background remains largely empty, which directs the viewer's attention to the figures and their interaction.
