The work captures the spirit of the Batavian Revolution, which saw the establishment of the Batavian Republic following the collapse of the Dutch Republic. The composition features three classical columns, each wrapped in bands of red, white, and blue, representing the revolutionary ideals of the era.
The columns are topped with distinct symbolic objects: a liberty cap, a star-shaped finial, and a triangle. These elements align with the text inscribed across the base, which reads 'VRYHEID BROEDERSCHAP GELYKHEID' (Liberty, Fraternity, Equality).
